Il valore del silenzio digitale
— George Steiner
The Value of Digital Silence
We live in an age where noise has become the measure of success. The louder you shout, the more you seem to exist. But it hasn’t always been that way — and it doesn’t have to be.
Digital marketing has pushed people and brands to chase numbers instead of relationships. Views, likes, reach, engagement: words that fill reports but empty meaning. The result is visible everywhere — an overdose of short, simplified, often useless messages. Communication that seeks quantity, not quality.
“Real communication is born from the desire to be understood, not from the fear of being ignored.”
— George Steiner
It’s a line that should be written above every keyboard. Because to communicate is not to be seen, but to be understood. And to be understood requires time, depth, and attention — the very things social media are designed to erode.
Why Silence Is a Strategy
That’s why I believe in the value of digital silence. Publish less, but better. Say little, but mean it. I’d rather one person come to my website, read carefully, think, and return — than have millions of views that vanish in fifteen seconds.
My goal is not to entertain but to transmit. Not to chase attention, but to deserve it. Because in a world made of noise, true luxury is calm. Silence is the new natural selection of thought: those who can listen, understand; those who can’t, stay on the surface.
This is why I share only a few lines here and let the real content live on my own sites. Not for everyone, but for those who seek. Not for traffic, but for trust.
In the end, you don’t need to speak to everyone — only to those who truly listen.
